Britain’s got…
I spent the weekend with a whole bunch of very talented people. Better yet, I spent the weekend with a whole bunch of very lovely, talented people. See, a lot of people are a lot of talented. Collectively, we go gaga for people with talent but really, talent is like hair: you’re born with it or you’re not. The big thing is what you do with it.
A girl at work was telling me a story today about a singer she knows who has to have at least three minutes of constant praise before she can ‘perform’. She once headbutted her dinner plate multiple times in front of a label rep because she was having a moment. She’s talented, but she’s a toolbelt.
One or two of those were floating around at the weekend, but a good chunk of the musicians, DJs, comedians and general folk milling around were the kind of people you want to have a long, boozey Sunday lunch with. Not everyone was ‘talent’ (I sure as hell wasn’t) but the beauty of it was that everyone was just plain delightful to be around. Maybe that’s what we should be celebrating. That, and the fact they kick arse at what they do.
As for me, maybe my talent is goat-juggling…
1) £5.00 to that ad campaign about the kids with the in-turned eyelids. Not interned eyelids, that’d be a whole ‘nother problem
2) CTG on the train
3) The baby opposite on the way home.
